Police forced people petitioning for justice in Beijing, including a well-known victim of China's one-child policy, to return to Shanghai and beat several of them, a rights group said Wednesday.
The group of several dozen petitioners was detained in the capital on December 28, New York based Human Rights in China (HRIC) said.
It included veteran petitioner Mao Hengfeng, who has been seeking justice since she was fired from her job at a Shanghai soap factory in 1998 for becoming pregnant with a second child.
